1. It’s a spreadsheet
Monday.com is like a spreadsheet. It has the general look and feel of a spreadsheet-based application like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. However, it is easier to use, given its more intuitive user interface. With pre-built templates, you won't have to start from scratch as you do with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
If you are not comfortable with Microsoft Excel, Monday.com will be a much-needed relief. Additionally, suppose you are used to building and managing project plans in Microsoft Excel. In that case, Monday.com will seem like a dream come true because you'll now have online collaboration and standard project templates to leverage.
2. Coordinate the project in one location
Unlike traditional spreadsheet-based tools, you'll coordinate with your project team in one online location. You'll no longer have version control issues as every project team member will be able to access the same information from one place.

Unfortunately, Monday.com has many drawbacks and limitations when it comes to using Monday.com for project management. In this section of our Monday.com review we'll take a look at the cons of Monday.com.
1. It's just a task management tool
Monday.com may be one of the best work management tools in the market. However, when you break down, it's capabilities for project management, it's only suitable for task management. Sure, Monday.com has various views: Table, Timeline, Kanban, Calendar, Chart, and Map. However, each is different visualizations of a task list for yourself or your small team - you're limited to performing task management, not project management.
Also, don't take my word for it; see their website. You'll find Monday.com showing you an endless view of checklists! If you're looking to manage projects that require people from other teams, you won't find what you need with Monday.com.
2. It's nothing more than collaborative boards
At the core of what Monday.com is trying to do is replace the product suites like Microsoft (i.e., Word, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint) and Google (i.e., Sheets, Drive). However, we at TrueNxus would argue that they lean more toward replacing document-based products like Microsoft Word, Microsoft OneNote, and Google Docs. Typically you would create checklists or to-do lists in document-based tools and not a spreadsheet. It also does a great job of replacing Microsoft SharePoint. If you are a power user of any spreadsheet software (i.e., MS Excel, Google Sheets, Smartsheet), Monday.com won't get the job done. While Monday.com provides you with a spreadsheet-like view, it doesn't have the formulas or pivot tables you need to analyze the data.
As a result, you'll soon realize that Monday.com is just a set of collaborative workspaces, or what Monday.com calls boards.
3. Reporting is limited
Monday.com has limited reporting capabilities, which are necessary for project management. If you are executing a project with more than a couple of stakeholders, you're going to need to monitor and report progress with more than a few bulleted lists with dates attached to them. You will need to pull together a project status report to track the project health, and you won't find any feature on Monday.com that will provide you with the capabilities to do so, at least not without a steep learning curve or paying for the most advanced package.

4. You cannot see everything you are responsible for
Monday.com allows you to visualize every task you are assigned to on a specific board. However, you have to go into the page and search for your name or filter for your name to do this. Then you have to do this every time.
While this is hugely inefficient in its own right, it's even more annoying and unproductive if you want to see every task you are assigned to across multiple projects, because you can't. You should be able to see everything that you are responsible for completing. Additionally, you should be able to see how others impact your work, which is task dependencies. If a task is dependent on another task, you have to go into the board and find the task and see if anything has changed.

Whether you're buying an annual plan or a monthly plan, Monday.com pricing can get expensive, especially with required minimum seats. The Individual plan starts at $8/user/month ($10/user/month if billed monthly). However, Monday.com requires you to buy licenses in blocks. That is, you'll need first to buy 3 seats, then 5 seats, and an additional 5 seats after that. That is to say; if you have 6 users and you want to purchase the Basic plan, you will need to buy 10 licenses, meaning you'll pay for 4 licenses you aren't even using. 6 seats would be $80/month ($100/month if billed monthly).
To simply start out using Monday.com you are required to purchase at minimum 3 seats, so you're looking at least $24/month ($30/month if billed monthly). Additionally, if you want limited reporting capabilities, you need the Standard plan, which costs even more. What's the point of Monday.com without the reporting, though?
